I'm not familiar with your sources, so cannot comment on that. I do however agree with what I think is the main thrust of your question. It seems that many people attend Church on a Sunday morning because it is 'the thing to do' and not because they believe in Christ, or even think about why they are there. Jesus said "go forth and spread the word". He didn't mention wearing posh hats and carrying a bible which is never opened from one week till the next.
