Engineering Officer question?

I am currently an ROTC cadet and plan on branching into the Corps of Engineers upon graduation and commission. My question is, as an Engineer Officer (I'd be a 2LT), do you perform more fieldwork or paperwork? Also do Engineering Officers go on missions with infantry or do they (and other engineers) clear more mine fields and stuff? I'd appreciate any info you may have. Personal or firsthand knowledge would be preferred
