What breed of owl squawks as it attacks?

we had an owl attack us the previous night, after 3 AM in the morning. we need to know what breed of owl it was to best file our report about it to the DNR. we are in one of the few areas in michigan that has both owls AND hawks, thus we need to know the EXACT breed of this.
